Alexander J. Petshaft is a Jewish American composer raised in Fairfield Connecticut. At the age of nine he began learning piano and the following year he began playing the French horn. Since then he as continued to pursue music, graduating Cum Laude from Western Connecticut State University with a bachelor’s degree in audio and music production and receiving the Student Composer Award. There he studied horn performance with Dr. Callaghan, composition with Dr. O’Grady and Dr. Isaacs and audio and music production with Sheldon Steiger, Robbie Kondor and Ed Dzubak. Alexander then studied with Dr. Josh Fineberg at Boston University where he graduated with a masters degree in music composition and received the Department of Theory and Composition Award. In 2021 Alexander won the Ruzickova Composition Competition and Viktor Calabis Prize and in 2022 participated in the São Paulo Contemporary Composers Festival. Since then Alexander continues to compose contemporary music for musicians and ensembles as well as compose for film.
